TAFE Illawarra Event management students have enlisted the support of Dan Hunt to help them raise funds for and promote mental health.

The students have formed a company called True-Myth Events and Production and have chosen mental health to support because they know one in five people experience mental health issues every year.

Wollongong’s City Centre will be the fashion centre of attention when model casting agents from fashion capitals of the world come to the Illawarra to judge the ‘event of the year’ – Illawarra’s Top Model 2015.

The model competition launched today is just one of the exciting fund raising events during the Highlights on Mental Health campaign aimed to raise awareness of mental health in the Illawarra and support the Light and Hope Clubhouse in Wollongong.

NSW Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier for the Illawarra and South Coast Gareth Ward launched the four-month campaign at Pepe’s on the beach at the Northbeach Novotel today.

Light and Hope Chairman Professor Deane said the campaign had huge support from businesses and the community, with Wollongong Destination, Wollongong City Council, Wollongong Central, South Coast Private Hospital and IOH already enthusiastically behind the venture.

Professor Deane commended Founder of Highlights on Mental Health, and internationally acclaimed hair and styling icon, Robyn David te Velde for her work as the entrepreneur and creative director behind the campaign events.

Wollongong Lord Mayor Gordon Bradbery has wholeheartedly committed his personal support to the campaign stating the Highlights on Mental Health campaign ticked all the boxes.

“The fundraising events are inspirational and just what the new Wollongong Centre needs,” he said. “It will engage the community at large, while raising awareness for mental health.”

Supported by our Media Partners WIN TV and the Illawarra Mercury, Illawarra’s Top Model will be staged during Wollongong Central’s Spring Fashion Campaign in September and early October, with the Finals of Illawarra’s Top Model being judged on a runway in the Wollongong Mall on Mental Health Day, Saturday October 10th.

Campaign Director Robyn te Velde said the winner of the model competition would win a trip to Europe, accommodation and expenses for a modeling contract in Europe generously put forward by her son Paul James Hay, now the owner and Creative Director of a leading European agency, Core Artist Management EU, which will soon establish a scouting office in Australia.

A number of other international model agency owners, casting directors and fashion icons from the ‘fashion capitals’ of the world (including Paris, London, New York, Milan and Berlin) have accepted Paul’s invitation to come to Wollongong specifically for this event.

They will be part of the judging panel looking for fresh new Australian faces during the heats and finals of the model competition in Wollongong Mall.

Ms te Velde said the competition may discover Australia’s next Super Model.

“Unique opportunities for local aspiring models will be up for grabs right here in the Gong, “ she said.

Core Artist Management

“The winner will be treated to an expenses paid return airfares trip to Europe, incorporating placement with a network of leading EU agencies, sponsored by Core Model Management, which will offer our top model winner the chance to work with the world’s leading brands and industry icons.”

Illawarra’s Top Model is expected to attract hundreds of entrants around Australia who will be asked to participate in the fundraising activities in support of mental health in the Illawarra.
